Headaches & Migraines

While many headaches are due to medical conditions outside of the scope of physiotherapy, a certain subset of headaches can be attributed to structures of the spine and neck. These are called "Cervicogenic" headaches, and can often respond well to physiotherapy treatment.

Though difficult to diagnose outside of a physical examination, Cervicogenic headaches are often characterized by the following:

  • Headaches affecting the side of the head and face, often on one side

  • Headaches that are made worse, or brought on, by head and neck movement

  • Accompanying tension or pain in the neck, most commonly the upper neck
